The Nassau County Firematic Water Rescue Association fourth annual surface drill was held in Atlantic Beach.
Atlantic Beach Rescue hosted the Nassau County Firematic Water Rescue Association Surface Water Rescue Drill July 27th in Atlantic Beach.
The event was sponsored by Zodiac Maritime Academy and had participating agencies from Baldwin, Long Beach, Island Park, Hewlett, Oceanside and Wantagh,
The Drill is in its 4th year and features professional training and a real life scenario. This years scenario featured an incident where a vessel underway being operated by a man experiencing a MI(cardiac), becoming unresponsive, colliding with another craft and eventually running aground with 4 persons onboard.
Village of atlantic beach lifeguards served as victims as rescuers treated and transported victims with simulated injuries.
The 6 victims were treated within 32 minutes from time of alarm. A 7th Victim was was reported missing and a search grid was conducted with datum based on tides, wind, bathymetry and hydrology - the low profile mannequinn was found within 9 minutes of the report.Based on recent events several teams ventured around the inlet to the Ocean and practiced victim pick ups in 3 foot surf from kawasaki Jet skis and Zodiac's state of the art Inflatable Rescue Boat " aptly named the minuteman for its extremely quick deployment (under 60 seconds).
